Nonyl Aldehyde is Colorless oily liquid. Solidifies when cold. Boiling point is 191 - 192°C, melting point is 5 - 7°C, relative density is 0.820 - 0.830, refractive index is 1.422 - 1.429, flash point is 71°C. It is soluble in 3 volumes of 70% ethanol and oils. Acid value is <10. It has a greenish, slightly sweet, sharp beeswax - floral aroma, with average fragrance - retention power. When the concentration is less than 0.0005%, the fragrance is fresh, with notes of citrus and vinegar.

It is widely used in perfume formulas, and the dosage should usually be less than 0.1%. It can be used in rose, neroli, lily of the valley, peony, iris, geranium, sweet orange, lemon, jasmine, tuberose, angelica root and many other fragrance types. It is also often used as the top note of the aldehyde fragrance base. It can also be used in trace amounts in edible flavors, such as in citrus - based formulas, especially lemon and tangerine.
