D-tryptophan (English D(+)-Tryptophan) is a white or off-white to slightly yellow crystalline powder at room temperature, odorless or slightly odorous, and slightly sweet in taste. Its solubility in water is 1.14 grams (25 °C). It is soluble in dilute acids and alkalis, stable in alkalis, decomposes in strong acids, slightly soluble in ethanol, and insoluble in chloroform and ether. It plays an important role in the growth and development and metabolism of humans and animals.
