Used as raw materials for the preparation of emulsifiers, surfactants, resinifying agents, polishing waxes, vulcanization accelerators, and pharmaceuticals; acidic gas absorbents for removing hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide. Derivatives of this product are widely used as various reagents and reaction auxiliaries. Its dextrorotatory form is used as a raw material for the production of the anti-tuberculosis drug ethambutol in pharmaceuticals; the d-form of this product can also be used as a raw material for antibacterial agents and uterine hemostatic agents
