Methyl propionate is a colorless liquid with a fruity fragrance. It is miscible with various organic solvents such as alcohols, ethers, and hydrocarbons, and slightly soluble in water. When methyl propionate is heated, it decomposes to produce irritating fumes. It reacts with oxidants and poses a fire hazard.
