Copper Chloride Dihydrate
CuCl2; COPPERCHLORIDE; Copperdichloride; Copper(II)chloride97%; Copper()chloride; dichlorocopper; Cupric(II)chloride; copper(ii)chloride(1:2); CUPRICCHLORIDE,ANHYDROUSCUPRICCHLORIDE,ANHYDROUSCUPRICCHLORIDE,ANHYDROUSCUPRICCHLORIDE,ANHYDROUS;Coclor
The chemical formula of copper chloride is CuCl2, which is a yellow-brown powder with a relative density of 3.386 (25 ° C), a melting point of 620 ° C, and a solubility of 70.6 at 0 ° C. It is also easily soluble in ethanol and acetone. It easily absorbs moisture from the air and turns blue-green. The dihydrate CuCl2 · 2H2O, CuCl2 · 2H2O is a green orthorhombic crystal, deliquescent, and has a relative density of 2.38. It can be prepared by passing chlorine gas and water into a contact tower containing metallic copper, or by using copper carbonate (actually basic copper carbonate) and hydrochloric acid. This hydrate loses water at 110 ° C. Anhydrous copper chloride can also be produced under the condition of heating to 140-150 ° C in the hydrogen chloride gas stream. Anhydrous copper chloride is further heated to 993 ºC and can decompose into white cuprous chloride and chlorine gas. X-ray studies have shown that copper chloride is a covalent compound with a planar chain shape.
