Phenethyl dimethyl acetal is a colorless liquid. It has a strong grassy and sweet aroma. It is more stable than phenylacetaldehyde. The boiling point is 219°C and the flash point is 88.3°C. It is soluble in ethanol, most non-volatile oils and propylene glycol, and insoluble in water, glycerin and mineral oils. Natural products are found in cocoa beans.

Phenethyl dimethyl acetal is the most commonly used acetal. It is most suitable for use in rose, hyacinth and lilac fragrances. It can also be used in jasmine and orchid fragrances. It is also often used in fragrances such as gardenia, sweet-scented osmanthus grass and carnation, and can obtain spicy leaf fragrance, sweet flower fragrance and earthy root fragrance. It is used together with oakmoss and treemoss products, geranium oil, vetiver oil and angelica root oil in fragrances such as rose, geranium, lily of the valley and oriental fragrances, and also has a very good effect. It can also be used in trace amounts in edible flavors, such as plum, apricot, cherry, honey fragrance and other types.
