Light yellow crystals. Melting point 84-86 °C, soluble in 3.3% of 95% ethanol, 50% of benzyl benzoate, and 29% of benzyl alcohol. It has a heavy sweet animal fragrance with the scents of ambergris, musk, and ambrette seed oil, vaguely with floral and fennel fragrance, the aroma is quite long-lasting, and the taste is bitter.
