Product Description

White crystalline powder, odorless, with a slightly bitter taste initially and then turning pungent. It exists in the bark of willows, leaves of Gaultheria leucocarpa and sweet birch trees in nature. Chemical formula C6H4(OH)(COOH), melting point 157-159°C, gradually changing color under illumination. Relative density 1.44. Boiling point is about 211°C/2.67kPa. Sublimes at 76°C. Under normal pressure, rapid heating decomposes it into phenol and carbon dioxide. Easily soluble in ethanol, ether, chloroform, benzene, acetone, turpentine oil, and not easily soluble in water.

Salicylic acid, also known as o-hydroxybenzoic acid, is an important organic synthesis raw material. In pesticide production, it is used to synthesize the intermediate isopropyl salicylate for organophosphorus insecticides isocarbophos and isofenphos-methyl, and the intermediate 4-hydroxycoumarin for rodenticides warfarin and coumatetralyl. In the pharmaceutical industry, in addition to being used as an antiseptic and disinfectant drug in itself, salicylic acid also serves as an intermediate for many drugs such as acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin). It is also an important raw material for industries such as dyes, fragrances, and rubber.
