Product Description
Acetyl bromide, also known as bromoacetyl or acetyl bromide. Chemical formula CH3COBr. Molecular weight 122.96. Colorless fuming liquid. Melting point -96°C, boiling point 76°C, relative density 1.6625 (16.4/4°C), refractive index 1.4486. Soluble in benzene, ether and chloroform. Gradually turns yellow in air. Reacts violently with water or alcohol to form acetic acid or acetate esters respectively. Its reactivity is the same as that of acetyl chloride, but it is more active and releases smoke that is strongly irritating to the eyes. Flammable. Has strong corrosiveness. Prepared by the reaction of acetic acid with phosphorus pentabromide.
