Product Description

Lanolin is a secreted oil that adheres to wool. There are two kinds of lanolin refined products, namely anhydrous lanolin and aqueous lanolin. Anhydrous lanolin is a pale yellow or brownish-yellow ointment; sticky and greasy; faint and specific odor. Soluble in chloroform or ether, soluble in hot ethanol, very slightly soluble in ethanol, insoluble in water; but can be uniformly mixed with about 2 times the amount of water, and has excellent emulsifying properties. Lanolin is not saponified in caustic alkali, but in caustic alkali ethanol solution, pressurized and heated, it can be saponified. Strong hygroscopicity. Mp36-42 ° C, acid value not more than 1.5, saponification value 92-106 (heating reflux time is 2h when measured), iodine value 18-35 (time in dark place is 4h when measured). Hydrated lanolin is obtained by melting lanolin and mixing it with distilled water. It is a light yellow or off-white ointment with a water content of 25% -35%. Soluble in ether and chloroform; insoluble in water.
