Under normal temperature and pressure, cis-3-hexenyl salicylate is a colorless oily liquid. It is insoluble in water and has a special floral and herbal balsamic odor. The phenolic hydroxyl group in its structure can also undergo nucleophilic substitution reactions with alkyl halide compounds under alkaline conditions to obtain corresponding phenolic ether derivatives.
