The pure product is white acicular crystal. Melting point is 74-75 °C. It is easily soluble in water and alcohol, and difficult to dissolve in dichloroethane and benzene. It is stable under acidic conditions with pH < 3. Under conditions with pH > 3 and alkaline conditions, ethylene is released. In plants, ethylene and 2-hydroxyphosphonic acid are released. The industrial product is light yellow viscous liquid or waxy solid.
