Product Description

Colorless and transparent liquid. Has a garlic-like odor. Soluble in most organic solvents, slightly soluble in acetonitrile and water. Oxidation in air releases heat and converts to phosphine oxide.

Applications

Tributylphosphine is an important organophosphine ligand and is widely used in transition metal organic synthesis. It can be used as a reducing agent to reduce and open disulfide bonds in proteins, and can also reduce carbonyl and epoxy groups. It can also be used as a catalyst for olefin polymerization, a catalyst for carbonylation of dibenzyl alcohol, a catalyst for aminomethylation of polybutadiene, and a catalyst for selective hydrogenation of unsaturated steroids.
