At room temperature, zinc sulfate heptahydrate is a white particle or powder with orthogonal crystals and convergence. It is a commonly used astringent agent and will weathering in dry air. Heating to 30 ° C loses one molecule of crystal water, 100 ° C loses six molecules of crystal water, 280 ° C loses seven molecules of crystal water, and 767 ° C decomposes into zinc oxide and sulfur trioxide. Soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol and glycerin. Requires airtight storage. Mainly used as a raw material for the manufacture of zinc barium and other zinc salts, it is also an important auxiliary raw material for viscose fibers and vinylon fibers. It is also used as a printing and dyeing mordant, wood and leather preservative, bone glue clarification and preservative, medical emetic and fungicide, and used in agriculture as a trace element fertilizer.
