White or slightly yellow crystals or crystalline powder; slightly odorous, bitter and slightly salty. Slightly soluble in ethanol, sparingly soluble in water or chloroform, and very slightly soluble in ether. Metronidazole is a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound with alkalinity and low water solubility. According to the prodrug principle, metronidazole is made into potassium phosphate ester, which has increased water solubility and can be used as an injection.
