Product Description

Methyl Isobutyl Carbinol is Colorless and stable liquid. Melting point -90°C, freezing point -90°C, boiling point 132°C, relative density 0.8083 (20/20°C), refractive index 1.4112, flash point 40.6°C, vapor pressure (20°C) 0.373 kPa, viscosity 5.2 mPa·s. Solidifies into a vitreous body at temperatures below -90°C. Vapor forms an explosive mixture with air, with an explosion limit of 1%-5.5%. Miscible with many organic solvents and slightly soluble in water. The solubility in water at 20°C is 1.9%.

Applications

4-Methyl-2-pentanol is an excellent medium boiling point solvent. Mainly used as a solvent for dyes, petroleum, rubber, resins, paraffin waxes, nitrocellulose and ethyl cellulose, etc., as an inert solvent for nitrocellulose paints, which can increase the gloss and flatness of the paint and improve the redness performance; used as a solvent in the manufacture of lubricating oil additives, etc. Raw material for organic synthesis, mineral flotation lotion, such as extraction of silicon and copper sulfate ore; can also be used for brake fluid.
