PHENYLMAGNESIUM CHLORIDE
Phenylmagnesiu;Chlorphenylmagnesium;chlorophenyl-magnesiu;Phenylchloromagnesium;chlorophenylmagnesium;Magnesium,chChemicalbooklorophenyl-;PHENYLMAGNESIUMCHLORIDE;phenylmagnessiumchloride;PhenylMagnesiuMChloridePhenylmagnesiumchloride(2MTHF)
Yellowish-brown to dark brown solution. The density at 20 °C is 0.98 g/mL. Soluble in ether and other ether solvents. The 3M solution of phenylmagnesium chloride is equivalent to 48%, and the relative density is about 1.15. Reacting with water or acid produces flammable and toxic gases accompanied by the release of heat. It can be prepared by making chlorobenzene act on magnesium in the presence of a catalyst, organic nitrate. Used as an arylating agent in organic synthesis, it can synthesize corresponding aromatic hydrocarbons, alcohols, ketones, acids, amines, silicones, boranes, etc. There is a similar phenylmagnesium bromide. Commercially available products are ether solutions with a relative density of about 1.14.
