Product Description

Methyl formate is an ester derivative of formic acid. At normal temperature, it is a colorless, transparent, and volatile liquid. It has a pleasant fragrance. It can be dissolved in water, alcohols, and ethers. It can also be saponified with water and alkali solution. It is easily hydrolyzed in moisture. Its vapor forms an explosive mixture with air, and the explosion limit is 6.0% to 20.0% (by volume).

Methyl formate is used primarily to manufacture formamide, dimethyl formamide, and formic acid. Because of its high vapor pressure, it is used for quick - drying finishes. It is also used as an insecticide and to manufacture certain pharmaceuticals.
