1-Nonanol is Colorless to yellow oily liquid. Boiling point is 213 - 215°C, relative density is 0.824 - 0.830, refractive index is 1.431 - 1.435, flash point is 99°C. It is soluble in 3 volumes of 60% ethanol and fats and oils, with an acid value < 1.0. It has a strong, sweet and green rose wax and fruity fatty wax aroma. There is also a somewhat orange and sweet orange - like scent.

It is used as a solvent and for the manufacture of plasticizers, surfactants, stabilizers, and antifoaming agents. This product has a slightly pleasant aroma of roses and oranges. The natural product exists in the essential oils of sweet oranges, bitter oranges, grapefruits, and oakmoss, etc. in a free or esterified state. China's GB2760 - 86 stipulates that it is an edible flavoring allowed to be used, mainly used in flavors of butter, peach, orange, lemon, lime, and pineapple, etc. The dosage is extremely small.
