4-Bromobutyric acid has a relatively low melting point, that is, the melting point is 32-33°C. It is not easy to form crystals. Generally, 4-bromobutyric acid is obtained through a distillation process. In the presence of water, 4-bromobutyric acid is easily cyclized to remove hydrogen bromide and generate γ-butyrolactone.
