As a polymer molecular weight regulator, n-tetradecyl mercaptan is used not only in the synthesis of synthetic resins and polymethyl methacrylate, but also in the synthesis of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer (ABS). The adduct of n-tetradecyl mercaptan and ethylene oxide can be used as an emulsifier, dispersant, detergent, and viscose additive. After oxidation and combination with organic amines, it can be used as an anti-aging agent for lubricating oil, and a vulcanizing agent for synthetic and natural rubbers. Thio carboxylates can be used as ore flotation agents. Its condensate with aldehydes can be used as a lubricant for extrusion lubricating oil additives. The phosphide of n-tetradecyl mercaptan can be used as an additive for lubricating oil, an ore flotation agent, and an insecticide. Evidently, its applications are quite extensive and the market potential is considerable.
