Applications

Artemether has a direct killing effect on the erythrocytic stage of Plasmodium, is ineffective against the tissue stage, has very low toxicity to experimental animals, is rapidly absorbed, widely distributed, and quickly excreted in the body. Electron microscopic observation shows that the main site of action of this product on rodent malaria parasites is the membrane system structure. The mechanism of its antimalarial effect is considered to be the interference with the function of the plasma membrane-mitochondria of Plasmodium.
