Ethyl acetate is colorless, flammable liquid with a fruity aroma. It is miscible with various organic solvents such as ethers, alcohols, halogenated hydrocarbons, and aromatic hydrocarbons, and slightly soluble in water.

Applications

The extractant is used to extract many compounds (phosphorus, tungsten, arsenic, cobalt) from aqueous solutions. In organic analysis, it serves as a solvent during crystallization. When separating sugars, it acts as a standard substance for calibrating thermometers. It is used to detect bismuth, gold, iron, mercury, oxidants, and platinum, and to determine the content of bismuth, boron, gold, iron, molybdenum, platinum, potassium, and thallium. It is also applied in biochemical research, protein sequence analysis, environmental protection, analysis of pesticide residues, organic synthesis, and perfume manufacturing.
