2-Dimethylaminoethyl  methacrylate is a clear colorless liquid. Less dense than water and insoluble in water. Vapors heavier than air and corrosive to eyes and mucous membranes. May polymerize exothermically if heated or contaminated.

Applications

Used in adhesives and coating modifiers. Due to the ionic bonding action, it can be used as a crosslinking agent and a dye and pigment colorant. It can also be used for the synthesis of antistatic agents, lubricating oil additives, leather treatment agents, combustion promoters, emulsifiers, cationic precipitants, etc.
Used in automotive and architectural coatings, brighteners in latex paints, cleaning and dispersing agents in lubricating oils, water treatment auxiliaries, retention aids for papermaking, acrylic floor paints, and can also be copolymerized with vinylpyrrolidine as a styling hairspray, demulsifier in water-based emulsions.
